While everyone did a good job my favorites were Belen, Mary, and Kate. I really liked the layout of Belen's website it was creative and visually appealing yet very consistent. I thought Mary had a really creative collage and also found her website very informative. I liked Kate's use of pink because I think it really tied each page together and really made the whole site very cohesive.

Comments:
https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=8110794260341447618&postID=3379340790217466051
https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=5148527313088479956&postID=524982658953991149
https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=8584268916791697915&postID=2060363716413305034

Stumpers:

The Stumpers were also really well done and fun to look at. While everyone did a great job, my favorites would have to be Chelsea, Lauren and Danielle. I thought Chelsea's was not only a good stumper but also a really pretty picture as well. I was a little perplexed by Lauren's but then I noticed something that looked just like it in Danielle's stumper! They were both good photos.

Comments:

https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=8482663384756044914&postID=3430807259920313671
https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=7267329756142598345&postID=5777019658874874132
https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=7586648405098344827&postID=3660957518742843314

Photo Stumper

See if you can figure out where on campus this picture was taken. My three favorite presentations would have to be Belen, Crispin and Mary. Belen's presentation was fun but it also covered a lot of material and made some great points, her examples for fonts and for over-animation were fantastic. Crispin's presentation was clever and included a lot of different aspects of a bad PowerPoints, which I will be sure to keep in mind the next time I have a presentation. Mary's Bad PowerPoint was informative and had some great suggestions that she presented in an entertaining way.

What to do and not to do in your PowerPoint:

Do:

1. Have a professional-looking design
2. Have a few main points on each slide
3. Have easy-to-read text
4. Check spelling and grammar
5. Use charts and pictures (If relevant and helpful)

Don't

1. Have bright, distracting backgrounds
2. Fill an entire slide with text, then read everything
3. Mix and match crazy fonts
4. Use lots of clip art and animation
5. Go overboard with transitions and effects

Below you can find my bad PowerPoint

http://www.cs.trinity.edu/~mlobosco/bad/A%20Bad%20PowerPoint_files/frame.htm

Madeline LoBosco

Copyright Information

If one is trying to use an image he or she found on the Internet, one must consider copyright laws. The idea of copyright dates all the way back to the founding fathers and is constantly evolving. Essentially, copyright is a governmental recognition of your rights as a creator to be the exclusive profiteer of your own intellectual property. A work of intellectual property, is copyrighted the instant that it is fixed in a tangible form, there no registration or fee though it is a good idea to file your copyright with the government. The big exception to copyright, however, is the idea of fair use. Fair use is not a defense, but it is a way to protect individuals from copyright infringement. If individuals are using images from the Internet and are concerned about copyright infringement, they may be protected by the idea of fair use. Fair use considers, 1. Nature of the work that’s being reproduced, (non-profit educational v. commercial)2. Purpose of your copy, (why are you reproducing) For a charity okay, but not for financial gain. 3. Amount that you are copying, keep things brief, limit to what you truly need. 4. Impact that the reproduction has on the rights holder’s ability to profit from his/her own work. If the individuals website is education or for a non-profit organization and is not benefiting financially chances are they are protected under fair use. It is always best to cite your source and, if possible, get permission from the creator.

Time: Person of the Year and Web 2.0

After Reading the Time Magazine article about the Person of the Year being not one outstanding individual but the idea of "you," I began to think. After letting the bold idea sit around in my mind for I while I soon realized that I agreed with Time. While many individuals have achieved amazing things this past year, it's hard to deny how amazing of a world you and I have built. We are able to communicate in such a variety of ways, express ourselves with no limitations, share our feelings and ideas, and truly connect with others all in the click of a mouse. That truly is an amazing feat. We are changing the world, creating endless possibilities for each other, we are part of a revolution, known to some as Web 2.0 and that makes you, The Person of the Year.

I wasn't very familiar with the idea of Web 2.0 until I read the Time article and the one I found on the database. While The Time article focused on the Web 2.0 revolution and what that means for our society, the other article I read focused on the idea of taking advantage of Web 2.0 to help businesses grow, sell and market products and ideas, and ultimately, to help ourselves. I believe that Web 2.0 will continue to expand even further more and more people will become connected in many different ways, ranging from social networks such as MySpace and Facebook to business ventures and banking.

Madeline LoBosco

My Experience with Microsoft Word

I would say that I am pretty familiar with Microsoft Word. I've been using it for my education, since early elementary school. I have typed countless papers on the program. I have also created letters, newsletters, brochures and general clip art pages. I've become comfortable with the setup of Word and have used most of the tools at one time or another. There are a few tools and techniques that I haven't quite mastered but I have used once or twice such as "find and replace" and "AutoCorrect" but for the most part, I feel like I could easily learn how to work with the things I'm unfamiliar with. I also believe I will be able to successfully adapt to Microsoft 2007, as I have previously used older versions on both a PC and Mac.

About Madeline LoBosco

My name is Madeline LoBosco, I'm a first year student at Trinity University. I'm from Overland Park, Kansas (a suburb right outside of Kansas City). Though I've lived in Kansas for 10 years, I'm actually originally from New York and it has become a frequent vacation spot for my family because we try to go back to see relatives and friends a few times each year. In high school I was very involved with the school newspaper, which was a lot of hard work but a lot more fun. I also participated in Student Government and the freshmen mentor program along with many other activities. So far I'm not in any Trinity activities quite yet but I hope to get involved with some great organizations soon.

I don't have the largest computer background. In my sophomore year of high school I took a computer applications class. Then for my last three years of high school worked a lot with Macs for newspaper. I became pretty familiar with the program InDesign and worked a little with Photoshop. Since I'm not incredibly experienced with technology I'm looking forward to being in a class such as CS 1300 to help me master some useful skills I know I'll someday need.

I'm very excited for my first year at Trinity!

Madeline LoBosco
